Website Owner Some home building or cottage plan companies sell plans that look like they have not been improved or updated for a 100 years. We try to keep this website up-to-date and work on it regularly. Included on this website are websites featuring 'do-it-yourself' information for building your own structure of some sort. Do-it-yourself instructions and building plans seem to be appropriate classified together here on this webpage. Clicking on the pictures will take you to the home page of the featured link. Many of these companies provide plans which are suitable for submission to your local county planning/building department. Also, a very good and important feature offered by a plan company is to provide a "Material List" which can be submitted to any lumber yard for fulfillment of a cost estimate and/or material load check list. That way you do not have to try and fiqure out what to buy and how much to buy. Saves a tremendous amount of time.

    DRUMMOND HOUSE PLANS   This is a real professional looking site with many nice looking unique designs. Picture on the right is of their 840 SF Plan W3900 - 'The Trail Seeker 1'. I like this other plan also, a 1325 SF Cottage called: House Plan W4935 'The Skyway 2' so much that i include it here for your viewing by clicking here. I could find about 8 plans for cabins under 1000 SF. I could find about 429 plans between 1000 SF and 1600 SF. According to their website plans can be modified, so if you like a plan in something that is too large for you, then maybe they can cut it down to a smaller square footage.

    GOODFIT HOUSE PLANS   This plans business does have a nice little inventory of plans for cabins or cottages under 1000 SF. The picture on the right is one of my favorite small homes. It is a two story 992 SF cottage called the "Saratoga". Yes, Ross Chapin plans are very high quality and provide a unique product.

    STOCKTON DESIGNS   This plan company located in the state of Oregon, appears to be very professional and has a good selection of smaller home plans. They have at least 84 Beach House plans that i can see, most are under 2000 SF. Picture on the right is of Plan Number 2023, a one story, 320 SF, 1 bedroom plus Loft, 1 bath Beach type Cabin, might be the smallest home plan they have in their inventory.

  11. SIMPLY ELEGANT HOME DESIGNS   This is a relatively new online business selling home plans and increasing their inventory regularly. The pictures of the homes on their website don't look simple to me and they do not have a lot of small homes, it appears. The smallest house plan i could find was their "Marine Garage with Apartment Plan" a 1 1/2 story, 2 Car Garage, Studio Apartment, 1 Ba, 1091 SF. The Video on the right is about one of their simple yet unique cottage house plans. Home design features wrap around porch, vaulted ceilings, an open floor plan and main floor master bedroom. This home plan is available for purchase on their website, look for the "Hudson Simple Cottage House Plan".

    Actually, if you are looking for something under 1000 SF - i could not find anything under 1000 SF in their "Small House Plans" section. The smallest i could find was the: "Scandia Small Shingle Cottage Plan 2 Br, 1½ Ba, 1178 SF". If you are interested in using their services, they might be able to scale down one of their plans to suit your requirements.

  17. Mackenzie II Cabin Plans CHEROKEE CABIN COMPANY   Nice website. Lots of lovely looking tiny cabin plans for sale. These plans are priced quite reasonably. No Thousand Dollar plans here. Tiny cabin in the Bahamas in the picture on the right was built (slightly modified) from their "Mackenzie II plans".

Pecos 1 bedroom 412 SF Cabin STONE MOUNTAIN CABINS   This business has about 6 each small 1 bedroom cabin plans and about 11 each 2 bedroom cabin plans plus some other larger 3 and 4 bedroom units. Nice looking, but too complicated for me to build. They are all pretty nice looking but a little more difficult for the first time builder or "Do-It-Yourselfer". It would be best for most people to enlist the services of a licensed contractor to build one of these cabins, in my opinion.

This 280 SF Cabin with sleeping loft is compact but has all you need. Access to the main floor is provided by a front door from a full width sheltered front porch. A ladder leads to an additional spacious vaulted loft. The open living area is vaulted and includes a complete roomy kitchen. The bath has a full shower. Price: $129.00
